Cypress (Thuja), also known as the cypress tree or Sichuan cypress, belongs to the Cupressaceae family and is a relic plant from the Cretaceous period. It is an evergreen tree primarily distributed in areas like Sichuan in mainland China, growing at altitudes of about 1,400 meters. To date, it has not been cultivated through artificial propagation. Approximately ten thousand cypress trees are found in the Kaixian and Chengkou regions of Chongqing, as well as in the Xuebaoshan Nature Reserve.
Cypress contains natural components such as thujaplicin and cedrol, which have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and can promote blood circulation. The aromatic scent emitted by cypress effectively purifies the air, eliminating bacteria and viruses, while also having anti-inflammatory and swelling-reducing effects. Furthermore, cypress essential oil is notably effective for insect bites and various swellings.
Cypress from the Taihang Mountains has a sweeter aroma, which becomes increasingly rich and sweet with improved material quality. As part of the cypress family, it also emits a scent reminiscent of pine trees. Notably, the fragrance of Taihang cypress is delicate and long-lasting, not overpowering, and carries a hint of mint.
The cypress wood sold by Heung Yau originates from Chongqing and Sichuan, featuring a dry texture with a strong sweet wood aroma. It is recommended to burn it before sleep or during relaxation, or to place it on the bedside to help alleviate stress and promote a calming atmosphere.
